Dreaming spires of Oxford
In April 2018 I received an email from Amberley Publishing asking if I was interested in producing a book titled Oxfordshire in Photographs. The book would sit alongside a growing collection of books showcasing the UK’s counties. After my initial excitement of the opportunity had subsided the practical side of my brain began debating whether this was a feasible project to undertake. Photography is not my main job so fitting in a project of this scale alongside my other commitments was going to be a tall ask. My existing library of images, although extensive, would only support a small % of suitable images.
My brief was to create a selection of images from across the county throughout the year. Before even picking up my camera, I created a list of 40-50 locations which would showcase the county from the wonderful Broughton Castle in the north to White Horse Hill in the south. Scouring OS maps, I planned which of these locations to visit at certain points of the year combined with the optimium conditions in which they would look their best. From a practical point of view, if everything goes to plan, it might just be possible.
However, as many photographers will know landscape and outdoor photography rarely goes to plan and the weather you anticpated and light you banked on sometimes doesn’t materialise. With this in mind I have often visited the same locations on multiple occasions to capture a shot worthy of the printed book. When these sought after conditions did arrive it is a wonderful experience and the scenes I have witnessed over the last year have been breathtaking to say the least. I am thrilled to have been able to put these in a book for your pleasure too.
I’m very excited to announce my book Oxfordshire in Photographs is now available for purchase. The images showcase the city of Oxford, local towns and villages and of course the much loved evolving landscapes which make up this beautiful county.
